Mt. Mitchell, Highlands

This was taken on Mt. Mitchell, in Highlands, NJ.  The view is of the Atlantic Ocean in one direction, and the coastal hills in the other.

Looking out over the ocean, Sandy Hook is visible in the foreground, and New York City is visible further away.

Also visible is a huge building, spoiling the beauty of the spot in many people's opinion.  The construction of this building the late 1970's galvanized the public opposition to such development, and was instrumental to the passage of New Jersey's first coastal protection law.

Turning further are a random bunch of sightseers, the parking lot, and all that other stuff that is not usually shown in photos from "scenic" spots.
