Hartshorne

This was taken from Hartshorne Park, looking East to the Atlantic Ocean.  I was standing on top of the ridge, into which two tunnels have been driven, to hold huge artillery pieces.  These guns fired shells 18 inches in diameter, defending New York Harbor from hostile ships.  You can see little slivers of the concrete facing of these tunnels below, to the left and right of my vantage point.

Other features of the picture are the Atlantic Ocean, a portion of Sea Bright and the Navesink River, the forest that makes up the main part of Hartshorne Park, and a parking lot and water tower.  Toward the ocean are a couple of roads, beyond which are some additional bunkers and guns, not visible in the photo.
